| Add a review of CPAN-Mini
Want to do a regexp search of all code and documentation on CPAN? Now you can! Incredibly useful.
I was thinking about generating a local copy of CPAN and searched for how to do it and it turned out that all is needed is this module & app :) Very nice and useful. All you need is a .minicpanrc for configuration and then just execute `minicpan`
Super useful. I was genuinely surprised how easy it was to use, and now any perl module I want is right at my fingertips, even when the internet isn't
This is a great module for maintaining a "mini" CPAN mirror locally. It's also very easy to subclass so that you can customize its behavior to suit your needs.
The only noticeable downside is that it doesn't rebuilt the package-details file based on how you've filtered your copy, but this is minor and will probably be fixed in a later version.
Well, having your local mirror of CPAN is just sooo useful when you are disconnected from the Internet and that you need to install or upgrade some modules. Combined with the autoinstall features of CPAN/CPANPLUS, installing a module is now extremely quick.
A very big thank for this module
A longtime search has ended :"), thanx perl.com and Simon Cozen idea to post short-articles so that we can find new jewels.
The ideal way to have CPAN near you when u need it.. a big thanx for this module.
One additional feature will be good i.e.
the ability to choose the MIRROR from which to sync in
And the command flag which will edit directly the CPAN::Condig, otherwise
I now have to do this :
#locate CPAN | grep Config
and add the new directory manualy... and the first time I forgot file:// prefix.
just thoughts not something we cant live w/o.
