OpenGuides is a great piece of software that does something well that very few other software packages do: create the ability to collaboratively describe the world around you. The software is a bit of a pain to set up initially, but that's mitigated by helpful developers and users, as well as the ability to use things like debian packages to install rather than coming from CPAN.
Recent changes have made this a really fun tool to use for collaborative local geographical social description, including the Google Maps additions and other improvements.
