Bundle-Ovid (1.01)

For those who don't like this bundle, I wish to remind you that the point of the CPAN is to encourage participation, not discourage it. See http://use.perl.org/~Ovid/journal/26818 for more information.

Still not convinced? I put this bundle up only *after* there was ample evidence of prior art. Previous "personal" bundles have been put out by Simon Cozens, Michael Schwern, brian d foy, Ask Bjoern Hansen, Alberto Manuel Brandão Simões, José Alves de Castro (cog) and others. Go yell at them first. Then you can yell at me :)

I agree with Robert Rothenberg's review. This shouldn't be on CPAN.

This bundle sets a bad example. Contributions should be useful and address a need (for more than one person). This is basically "Ovid's Favorite Module List." Imagine if everyone started uploading their own favorite module list to use whenever they get on a new server. This is not what CPAN is for.

Some people may question the usefulness of a bundle containing Ovid's (or any particular author's) favorite modules. I think they can be useful if you find an author with module preferences similar to yours. In this case, I find that I agree about 90% with Ovid's selection, which means that I might actually use his bundle since I'm too lazy to roll my own. :-)

If you don't find it useful, don't use it. It's not like it's "hijacking" an important namespace with useless stuff.

Think of it as amazon's listmania feature. Maybe then we can add an "if you like this module, also try this one" feature! ;-) (I'll leave it to the reader to decide whether that is good or not).

Bundle-Ovid (1.01) ***

I'm not sure that a Bundle module that lists personal preferences of what a fresh installation of Perl should have belongs on CPAN. Frankly it's of little use to anyone but Ovid.

It makes little sense for me or anyone else to request changes since those reflect our preferences to what should be installed, not Ovid's.

It makes little sense for me (or I think anything else) to have out own Bundle::CPANID module since what extra modules are installed depends on the machine and what it's used for.
