Parts of the module which work: conversion between hiragana and katakana.
Parts which don't work adequately: conversion between romanized Japanese and kana. For example (in the non-Regex::Assemble version of the module) びょ gets turned into bixyo. The handling of ん is also inadequate, and generally the module has no options to control the type of romanization performed, which drastically limits its usefulness.
Parts which seem to be missing from the module: at the least, I would expect this module to handle conversion to / from halfwidth katakana. Anybody who deals with searching or sorting Japanese text needs to do this conversion regularly, probably much more than they need to convert between romanized Japanese and kana, or hiragana and katakana, so why is it that a module called Lingua::JA::Kana doesn't handle it?
As it stands, not a particularly useful module, since the above-mentioned parts of the module which work consist of two lines:
tr/あーん/アーン/
and vice-versa.
